ABOUT
"There is no such thing as inappropriate weather, only inappropriate clothing."
But it got your attention, didn’t it? The truth is I was born not with a gift of laughter and a sense that the world was mad, but in Cleveland, Ohio. As such, I am fiercely loyal to Cleveland sports — namely the Browns, the Cavaliers and the Indians — and to THE Ohio State University. My fervor for Ohio sports is matched only by my avidity for Pearl Jam. It was our mutual appreciation for Pearl Jam that was the impetus for the courtship of my wife, Jill, and our children’s first Pearl Jam concerts were in utero.
I attended the Columbus College of Art and Design on scholarship and spent my summers working for school’s 3-D illustration department. Upon graduating, I worked as a production artist for a printing company before taking a Graphic Design position at the Ohio Aerospace Institute. In Charleston, South Carolina, I served as Creative Specialist for Santee Cooper, the state-owned electric and water utility. I received my M.F.A. from Hartford Art Schoo, University of Hartford.
Currently, I am Associate Professor of Graphic Design and Illustration in the Department of Visual Arts at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
When I’m not helping Jill tend to our two kids, two dogs and two cats, I am probably painting, sketching, cycling, practicing the piano, grilling, reading News, building furniture, playing basketball, whispering sweet nothings to my Cervelo (Stella), drinking coffee, obsessing over our lawn, espousing the superiority of Apple products, or running DIG Creative.
As you can deduce, I don’t much care for idle time. Much like the Japanese idea of Kaizen, I have an insatiable desire to push myself and better myself. If I had a personal mantra it would probably be the words of Chuck Close, who said, “Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just show up and get to work.”
